Ladybird Vineyards: Where Tradition, Innovation, and Sustainability Flourish

Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of South Africa's renowned wine country, the Simonsberg ward near Stellenbosch, lies a hidden gem - Ladybird Vineyards.
Here, amidst the rolling hills and valleys, they mix tradition, innovation, and sustainability into every sip, creating wines that not only tantalize the taste buds but also leave a lasting impression.

Our journey begins with a deep reverence for the land and a commitment to stewardship that spans generations. Originally established as "Good Success" in 1818 by Dutchman Daniel Johannes van Ryneveld, the estate has witnessed the passage of time and the evolution of winemaking in South Africa. From its humble beginnings to its transformation into Laibach Vineyards in 1994 under the visionary leadership of entrepreneur Friedrich Laibach, the estate has always been a beacon of excellence in the region.

In April 2022, a new chapter unfolded as Laibach Vineyards was acquired by the neighbouring Kanonkop Estate and reborn as Ladybird Vineyards (The name a tribute to the three thousand ladybirds that are released each year into the vineyards to combat the bugs and hence bypasses the need of pesticides)

This transition marked not only a change in name but also a reaffirmation of their commitment to crafting wines of exceptional quality that honour the unique terroir and microclimate of their beloved Simonsberg property.
Under the guidance of the esteemed management team of Michael and Anél Malherbe, alongside the visionary winemaker Francois van Zyl, Ladybird Vineyards has embarked on a journey of innovation and sustainability.
Their 40-hectare estate, encompassing the original Laibach wine cellar, guest accommodations, and organically farmed vineyards, serves as a testament to our dedication to preserving the land for future generations.

Central to their winemaking philosophy is the belief that great wine begins in the vineyard. With a focus on organic farming practices and minimal intervention, they thrive to nurture the vines and allow the true character of the grapes to shine through in every bottle.

From water conservation initiatives to energy-efficient practices, they are dedicated to minimizing our ecological footprint and preserving the natural beauty of the land. It is through these efforts that they ensure the continued vitality of our vineyards and the surrounding ecosystem.

As they look to the future, Ladybird Vineyards is poised to redefine the landscape of South African winemaking. With their sights set on sustainability, quality, and innovation.
