Warwick The First Lady Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

  • Situated in the foothills of Stellenbosch's iconic Simonsberg Mountain, Warwick's terroir offers the perfect confluence of elements to grow grapes of consistently outstanding quality. In the cellar, careful vinification yields fine wines with true varietal character and honest expression of their origin. We deeply cherish what nature has provided, and are committed to protecting and nurturing our land for generations to come, we dedicate our time and passion to ensuring quality in every facet of our craft. Each wine in the collection tells a small part of the Warwick story.

Their original First Lady, Norma Ratcliffe was (literally) the first lady winemaker to operate commercially in South Africa. Today, their CEO Christiane von Arnim carries the baton for career women everywhere. And by “baton”, we mean another bottle of this delectably juicy cab!

Winemaker JD Pretorius performs a bit of magic with this famous Cabernet. All grapes are tank-fermented, allowing the vibrant, rich, ripe blackcurrant and plum fruit to sit front-and-centre. He then ages everything in very old oak for 18 months, which gives the wine time to integrate, but also ensures that nothing obscures that fresh profile of black fruit, berry compote, dark chocolate, and dried herbs.
